Curtain Measurement Guidelines

Getting the measurements right for your curtains couldn’t be easier! No need to worry about deductions or complicated calculations—we’ll take care of the rest, ensuring a perfect fit every time. Simply follow our straightforward guide based on your curtain rod or track and selected Hanging Method.

Step 1: Measure Your Curtain Rod or Track

For the most accurate fit, measure the width of your curtain rod or track, not the width of the window. This measurement is essential, as it is used to determine the required finished curtain width.

If you are installing a new curtain rod or track, we recommend extending it 150–400 mm beyond each side of the window and positioning it 100–250 mm above the top of the window frame. This helps improve light coverage and creates a more balanced appearance.

Measure Curtain Width Properly

Curtain Rod

If you are using a curtain rod, measure the distance between the decorative finials or end caps. Do not include the finials in your measurement.Use this measurement in Step 3 to calculate the finished curtain width.

Curtain Track

If you are using a standard curtain track, measure the full usable width of the track.Use this measurement in Step 3 to calculate the finished curtain width.

Step 2: Choose Your Hanging Method

We offer six hanging methods:

  • Pencil Pleat

A timeless style with elegant, adjustable pleats.

  • Grommet

A popular choice for contemporary spaces.

  • Ripple Fold

Creates smooth, continuous waves and is designed for use with a compatible curtain track.

  • Rod Pocket & Back Tab

Can be hung using either the rod pocket or the concealed back tabs for a clean, tailored look.

  • Pinch Pleated

Creates a formal and elegant appearance with structured, evenly spaced pleats.

  • Rod Pocket

The curtain rod passes directly through the pocket at the top for a simple, clean look.

Step 3: Measure the Curtain Width

For Pencil Pleat, Pinch Pleated, Ripple Fold and Grommet curtains, the finished curtain width should be 2× the measured width of your curtain rod or track.

Width = Curtain Rod or Track Width × 2

For Rod Pocket and Rod Pocket & Back Tab curtains, the finished curtain width should be 1.8× the measured width of your curtain rod.

Width = Curtain Rod Width × 1.8

Step 4: Measure the Curtain Length

There are three popular length options:

Kiss the Floor

The curtain ends 10–15 mm above the floor for a clean, modern look.

Puddle

The curtain extends 200–300 mm onto the floor for a more elegant and luxurious appearance.

Below the Window Sill

The curtain ends:150–200 mm below the window sill, or 20–30 mm above a radiator if one is located beneath the window.

For curtain rods or tracks, measure from the top of the rod or track to your desired curtain endpoint.

For curtain rings or track gliders, measure from the bottom of the ring or glider to your desired curtain endpoint.
